Fukuoka Prefecture Launches Gender Equality Initiatives and Inclusive Park Equipment

On October 31, Fukuoka Prefecture held a press conference to announce new initiatives promoting gender equality and inclusive public spaces. These efforts reflect the prefecture’s commitment to building a more equitable and accessible society.

Gender Equality Awareness Website Launched

Fukuoka Prefecture has launched a dedicated website to raise awareness about gender disparities in everyday life. The site highlights common situations where people experience gender gaps—such as in household responsibilities—and offers guidance on how to share domestic tasks more equitably.

As part of the initiative, the prefecture is inviting residents to submit creative works that reflect gender-related challenges and solutions in daily life. Submissions that resonate most with the public will be recognized and commended.

Forum to Promote Women in Leadership Roles

Beginning November 4 and running through August 2025, Fukuoka Prefecture will host a forum aimed at increasing the representation of women in management positions across industries. The forum provides a space for senior female staff to engage in dialogue with executives from local companies and peers from other sectors.

According to the prefecture, participating companies hope to foster broader perspectives among female employees through cross-industry interaction. Meanwhile, many women have expressed the need for supportive networks to address workplace concerns. The forum will feature keynote talks by business leaders, including the president of JR Kyushu.

Inclusive Playground Equipment Installed at Ohori Park

Fukuoka Prefecture is expanding its efforts to create inclusive play environments for children of all abilities. On November 1, the prefecture unveiled a new inclusive playground area at Ohori Park, featuring five specially designed pieces of equipment. These include a dish-shaped swing that allows children to lie down while playing.

The initiative aims to ensure that all children—regardless of physical ability—can enjoy park facilities. Similar inclusive equipment will be installed in four additional prefectural parks in the coming months.
