Kumamoto Prefecture Announces Initiatives on Inclusion, Business Attraction, and Local Brand Promotion
On November 19, Kumamoto Prefecture held a press conference to outline new initiatives focused on building an inclusive society, attracting semiconductor companies, and celebrating the 10th anniversary of its signature strawberry brand, *Yu-Beni*.
Promoting an Inclusive Society
Since 2025, Kumamoto Prefecture has appointed people with disabilities as members or observers of various councils. The goal is to ensure their voices are reflected in prefectural policies and to expand opportunities for participation in public activities.
As of this year, 20 individuals with disabilities have joined eight councils and six meetings, including the Disaster Preparedness Committee and the Prefectural Library Conference. In addition to members with physical and mental disabilities, the prefecture also has newly appointed individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities to the Prefectural Council on Disability Policy.
Attracting Semiconductor Businesses in Taipei
Kumamoto Prefecture hosted promotional events in Taiwan to attract semiconductor companies, highlighting the advantages of doing business in Kumamoto and introducing initiatives such as the Kumamoto Science Park, a hub for semiconductor research and production.
The governor expressed hope that more Taiwanese companies will invest in Kumamoto, following the example of TSMC. After the event, he visited TSMC and Tigerair to thank them for their recent investments and for establishing a temporary direct flight between Taipei and Kumamoto.
Celebrating 10 Years of *Yu-Beni* Strawberries
Kumamoto launched its *Yu-Beni* strawberry brand in 2015. Known for its elegant shape and balanced sweetness and acidity, *Yu-Beni* has become a leading product. Kumamoto ranks third nationwide in strawberry shipments, with *Yu-Beni* accounting for 62% of the prefecture's production.
Although fields were damaged by heavy rains in 2025, the prefecture expects harvest levels to remain stable thanks to farmers' efforts and government support. To mark the 10th anniversary, Kumamoto has launched a promotional campaign, unveiling a new logo for sales promotion. Also it announced the sale of new sweets made with *Yu-Beni*, in any shops.
The governor expressed his wish that more people will enjoy *Yu-Beni*.
