Kumamoto Governor Announces Road Construction Plans to Support Semiconductor Hub
Infrastructure Upgrades Target Traffic Relief Around Semicon Techno Park
On August 13, the Government of Kumamoto Prefecture held a press conference to announce new infrastructure developments aimed at alleviating traffic congestion around the Semicon Techno Park—an area where research institutes, factories, and related facilities are concentrated, including the JASM (TSMC) semiconductor plant.
To address increasing traffic volume in the region, the prefecture revealed plans to begin construction on two major road projects. The first involves expanding lanes in front of the JASM factory, while the second will establish a new road connecting the area to a regional high-standard highway. Land acquisition for both projects is already underway, and a groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for September 23. Completion is targeted for 2028.
The governor emphasized that road development around the Semicon Techno Park will be an ongoing effort, with long-term infrastructure planning essential to easing congestion.
Disaster Preparedness Measures Also Addressed
During the same conference, the prefecture also referenced its disaster response preparations in light of heavy rainfall expected to begin around August 10. Officials noted that relevant agencies are coordinating efforts to ensure public safety and minimize disruption.
