Miyazaki Governor Reports on Tour de France Inspection and Unveils New Initiatives

On July 15, the Government of Miyazaki Prefecture held a press conference to share insights from an official visit to France and announce new initiatives aimed at enhancing workforce diversity and cultural engagement.

The Governor traveled to France earlier this summer to observe the operations of the Tour de France, ahead of Miyazaki's hosting of the opening stage of the Tour de Kyushu, scheduled to debut this year. During his visit, the governor studied race management and promotional strategies, and met with officials from France's athletics and judo federations to position Miyazaki as a viable destination for future training camps.

Japanese Poet, Tanka, campaigns started


The governor also unveiled a campaign to celebrate the legacy of Bokusui Wakayama, a renowned tanka poet born in Miyazaki, in honor of the 140th anniversary of his birth and the 30th anniversary of the Wakayama Bokusui Tanka Award.

At the conference, the governor explained two initiatives: distribution of tanka diaries to parents via municipal offices alongside mother-child handbooks starting in August, and a social media event inviting residents to compose and post tanka poems on Instagram. Fifty participants in the posting event will be randomly selected to receive local specialty products as a prize. The event is non-competitive and runs from July 15 through October 31.
