1/20/26

Oita Prefecture Announces Support Measures for Fire‑Affected Town and Upcoming Events

Oita Prefecture held a press conference to outline its ongoing support for a town severely damaged by fire, as well as to announce several upcoming initiatives.

Continued Support for Recovery After Major Fire

The prefecture has been providing assistance following a large fire that broke out on November 18 and continued for about a month, damaging 194 houses. In response, the national government designated the area under the Disaster Relief Act and approved funding to support residents' recovery.

Using national funds and private donations, Oita Prefecture has been helping affected residents secure daily living expenses, restore safety, and rebuild their livelihoods. Efforts include planning for town reconstruction—such as demolition of damaged structures—and restoring the distribution network for local fishers.

In addition, the prefecture will provide financial support to up to three non‑profit organizations working on recovery efforts. Applications opened on January 20 and will remain open until February 3.

Discussion on Wage Increases to Be Held January 30

Oita Prefecture will host a discussion on January 30 with national institutions and business organizations to explore ways to achieve sustainable wage increases. The governor expressed hope that the dialogue will contribute to improved productivity and appropriate price transfers across industries.

Event Promoting Women's Participation in Construction Industry

On February 7, the prefecture will hold an event aimed at promoting women's active participation in the construction industry. This initiative is part of “Buildy”, a project focused on securing female talent and improving working conditions for women in the sector.

Members of the project—representatives from various construction companies—will share their achievements and introduce the appeal of the industry to young people and their parents.
