Saga Prefecture Announces Cultural Revitalization, Environmental Initiatives, and Seasonal Events
On October 17, Saga Prefecture held a press conference to unveil a series of regional initiatives and upcoming events, ranging from historical tourism and establishment of facilities for learning about microplastics to infrastructure renewal and winter festivities.
Yoshinogari Ruin Park Renewal Scheduled for March 2025
Saga Prefecture announced that Yoshinogari Ruin Park will undergo a major renewal in March 2025. The project aims to transform the park into a space where visitors can enjoy, learn, and stay overnight. A private company has been selected to design and operate the new facilities.
The updated park will feature accommodations such as cottages with private saunas, cabins inspired by ancient dugout shelters, and reconstructed dwellings from the Jomon period, offering immersive historical experiences.
Sengoku-Themed Tourism and Castle Expo
Saga prefecture is promoting tourism centered on the Sengoku period, a time when tens of thousands of warlords reportedly gathered and lived in the region, fostering castle construction and cultural development.
On November 23 and 24, in Saga prefecture, there will be one of Japan's most prominent castle expos, held annually since 2016. The event will include expert talks, appearances by popular actors, photo spots featuring warlord flags, and performances of traditional Japanese theater such as Noh and Kyogen.
Symposium about Marine Plastic
To address marine plastic pollution, Saga Prefecture is developing an experiential learning facility scheduled to open in June 2026. The center will educate visitors on environmental challenges and solutions.
In the lead-up, a symposium will be held on October 20 and 21, featuring a cross-national dialogue between Consul Generals from three countries and the Governor of Saga Prefecture.
Mountain Environment Expo Concept Announced
Saga Prefecture revealed the concept for its 2028 Mountain Environment Expo, which will highlight the ecological and cultural value of mountainous regions and promote sustainable practices.
The theme, “SAGA JAM – Breath of the Green and the Blue –,” reflects the interconnectedness of mountains, rivers, and the sea, and encourages spontaneous, nature-based activities that support long-term environmental stewardship.
Promoting Route Gran Blue
Saga is actively promoting Route Gran Blue, a scenic coastal road offering panoramic ocean views and numerous picturesque stops. The route is positioned as a key attraction for both local residents and tourists.

- Arita City Illumination featuring a marshmallow-decorated Christmas tree that visitors can harvest (Dec 13, 14, 20, 21)
- Romancing SAGA Tourism Collaboration (Oct 25–Mar 22)
- SAGA × Out of KidZania educational event (Nov 8–9)
- Public Access to Kunenan Garden, a nationally designated scenic spot (Nov 15–30)
- Saga Prefectural Traditional Performing Arts Festival(Nov 16)
- Yume Saga College Festival, which supporting lifelong learning for seniors (Oct 29)
